Shironuri Fashion

Image

I hadn’t heard about this style until very recently, its been gaining more popularity on Tumblr which is where I first found it. I call it a fashion, but there is no limit to what clothes are suitable for this style. The only important aspect of the style is a painted white face, the word Shironuri means painted white. It refers to the make-up of geisha and Japanese traditional actors.

Image

It doesn’t just have to be the face, you can use the white make-up on your neck and other visible skin too if you aren’t a fan of the ‘end of foundation’ type make up lines. If you just do the face then it looks like a mask, which is pretty cool but not to everyones personal preference.

Image

Usually the rest of the make up is pretty dramatic, I haven’t seen any instances where people do a subtle eye with the white face but it might exist somewhere. It’s quite a fun look though and I personally think that eye make up is the area that’s the most fun to do, plus without it the one tone face may look too harsh or a little boring.

Image

The style really is a form of art, it’s so beautiful and striking. It’s a look that takes a lot of guts to pull off since it’s very different to what people are used to seeing so it’s sure to attract lots of attention to you, possibly not positive attention either.

Image

Probably the most well-known (on Tumblr) shironuri is Minori. A lot of her make up is really intricate and she definitely pulls off the look fantastically. You can find more pictures of her on her website, here. This is where I found these pictures of her. (Pictures 1,3 and 5)

Image

The look is starting to catch on in the west now, not enough that you’re likely to see anyone in the street wearing it but enough for western girls to try their hand at this dramatic look and to post the results onto tumblr. (Such as PastelBat, shown above.) I can see why, it looks really fun to try out and there are so many creative possibilities.

Angelic Pretty Salopettes

Image

These slightly bizarre dress/overall/pinafore things called Salopettes have recently grown in popularity amongst the Lolita community, whilst many others debate if it is actually something that belongs in the lolita style. When I first saw them the shape put me off, but they have grown on me since seeing more people wear them in cute coordinates and now I think they are really adorable!

Image

The lolita brand Angelic Pretty have made salopettes in the same lovely prints as their lolita dresses, but the shape is different to what most people would identify as a lolita dress. Personally, I love lots of different types of fashion so I don’t really care if these are or aren’t lolita. I just love the colourful, girly prints!

Image

You would need to wear a shirt or some other kind of top underneath, just like you would with dungarees. Lots of the salopettes have shorter skirts than other Angelic Pretty dresses, which I think is good for somebody that isn’t a lolita because it’s probably closer to what they would normally wear.

Image

I just love the cute bunny hood on this one!

I think that these would fit in really well with lots of other sweeter styles, like Fairy Kei or Dolly style. Since they are a lot more open at the top it also means it should be easier to find ones that fit a larger bust, which is a problem many westerners have with buying from Japanese brands. I have also heard of replica salopettes that don’t carry the same large price tag as the brand version, though be a bit careful because the quality will be less than that of a brand.

Blog Name change!

Hey everyone, This is just a quick update to let you know I have decided to change the name of my blog. I felt my last name was a bit too complicated and didn’t reflect the fact that this is primarily my personal blog. Sorry for any troubles this has caused you!

It might be a bit bumpy for a couple days while I finishing sorting out everything and changing the name to match elsewhere! Please sit tight. πŸ™‚

Hime Kaji style

Hime Kaji is a style that many Hime Gyaru (See here for my post on how to dress Hime Gyaru) will wear on days they feel more lazy and casual. The look is about still being princess-like but in a more casual way, because of this it is much easier to make a Hime Kaji outfit from clothes you find in western high streets than it is to make a Hime Gyaru co-ordinate.

The look is more anything-goes as it is casual, but soft colours and floral prints, along with other girly details, are an easy way to make sure your outfit looks on-point.

Here are some great examples of Hime Kaji style

Image

I found this picture on Tumblr. This outfit is still girly and fun but isn’t as extravagant as Hime Gyaru, meaning it will get less odd looks in public ;P

Image

This image is from here. I believe it is a La Pafait dress. The fleece looks really soft and comfy, but easier to wear than a huge princess dress.

Image

This is from the wonderful Sui Princess. Here. The soft pink cardigan and skirt and are things that you could probably find in normal shops, but the delicate lace detail adds a princess edge to the outfit.

Image

These three are also fantastic examples of the style. They haven’t lost the princess look while dressing down for a more everyday style. Image from here.

The great thing about this style is that it takes a lot less time to get ready for than full on Hime Gyaru.

*+*I hope you all enjoyed my post on this wonderful style*+*

My Most Used Make-Up Products

Image

Today I’m going to show you my favourite make up products that I use to create my make up look. These are products that I use quite often. I usually do a dolly style make up, so I guess they’re suited for creating that look, but many of these products are versatile enough to be used in lots of different looks.

Image

Face –Β  For a lighter every-day look, I use the Lily Lolo mineral powders in Porcelain and Flawless Matte. For a more heavy make-up looks I use the Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer in 1 (Fair) as a foundation (this stuff is amazing), along with Talcum powder as the mattifying powder. I then use the Etude House Highlighter, along with my natural collection blush in Pink cloud. If I’m feeling fancy I will use the Urban Decay Baked Bronzer for contouring.

Image

Image

Eyes – My eyes probably take the most effort in my make-up, I use my white kohl liner (from Barry M) to rim my waterlines and in the corners, I might use the Etude House Tear Eyeliner in the corners sometimes if I want a more glistening look.

I use L’Oreal Liquid Liner to draw on my eyeliner, (I really like this stuff too!) If anything goes wrong I will use the Simple pen to wipe off any mistakes.

The next stage I do is the eyeshadow. I use the Front Cover palette with eyeshadows in Cloud, Gold, Copper and Black. I also love my Bourjois Eyeshadow in White, it’s very shiny and highly pigmented.

I will then stick on my falsies. I have some thinner more everyday ones and thick dramatic looking ones which are great for nights out. I cut up a cheap under-lash strip to smaller pieces so I can stick them on individually, which makes them look better. I got all these lashes from eBay, they were all really cheap too which is nice. πŸ˜›

The final stage is mascara. I use maybelline great lash mascara, it’s one of the best ones I’ve used, thought it isn’t waterproof it doesn’t smudge easily once it’s dried. I concentrate on the ends of my lower lashes.

Image

Lips – For my lips I don’t really have specific favourites just yet. I swap between different lip products all the time. My most favourite for colour is probably my Clinique chubby stick, it’s very light and natural.

For a more dramatic colour I just love the Tony Moly red lip tint, it doesn’t smudge at all once it has dried which is more than I can say for the 3 lipsticks and the Apocalips gloss.

I sometimes use a Too Faced lip plumper, the tingle feels nice and it makes my lips look marginally bigger, but I doubt my boyfriend would appreciate me wearing it around him. ;P

The Vaseline Cocoa Butter is really great for moisturising, especially in the evening.

Image

Other – These are products that don’t really fit anywhere else. A Too Faced sparkle for special occasions, A collection 2000 make up fixant spray to hold everything in place. I use the 17 clear mascara to fix my eyebrows in place, it’s not so clear anymore from months of foundation, powder and eyebrow pencil contamination. If my eyebrows are looking their best I will use the Rimmel eyebrow pencil to shade them in so they look a bit neater.

Silver Pink Half Moon Nails Mini-Tutorial

Image

For my summer ball last week I did these nails. Honestly, my dress was a strange coral pink so it didn’t really match, but they looked cool nonetheless. Both colours are so shiny it looks a bit space age to me. The half moon shape looks really modern and interesting.

Image

To create this look I used these three nail polishes in this order. A clear coat to start, then the silver base. Next I stuck paper hole reinforcers over the bottom of my nail (to create the half moon shape) and painted over my nails with the pink coat. Then I peeled off the hole reinforcers (carefully and before the top coat fully dried) leaving me with this pattern.

I really like all three of these nail polishes actually. The two colours are really pretty and shiny, and the base coat dried quickly. The shape was really easy to create too.

Sunday Style Inspiration: Pastelbat

I don’t know if you are aware of the pastel goth trend, but I think it’s a really fun and interesting look. Somebody who is often associated with that look is Pastelbat, though she also does outfits that look more Fairy Kei or Cult Party Kei. Her tumblr is here. She is known on tumblr for having lots of cute outfits.

All pictures are taken from her tumblr.

Image

Love hearts print?! That’s so cool.

Image

I just love the sheer top layer look! I desperately need a sheer dress/skirt in my life.

Image

I think this is a very colourful and fun outfit. I like clothing that’s fun and interesting, it must brighten up everyone’s day.

Image

This is a very typical pastel goth look, for any of you looking to try out the style.

Image

This looks very lolita to me, I love all the pastel colours she uses. They’re so pretty but not too harsh on the eye. Also, I find the way she does her blush very interesting. I know that look is very popular in Japan right now, but I’m not so sure it would suit me.

*~*I hope you all have enjoyed this weeks style inspiration!*~*
